Painting with oils is hedonistic. It is about fat, juicy paint, solvents that drip and run wildly, a fistfull of oversized brushes and the furious smudging of rags. Oil is about fighting through the preciousness of the underpainting and risking losing what once was, for the rich, abundant possibility of what could be.
